GO: a tiny ttrpg engine
A downloadable game
Let's Go Already!
Go is tiny tabletop roleplaying engine built for low- or no-prep single session games. It runs on a very simple 1d6 system, requires no character sheets (though we made them in case you wish to use them), and includes rules for four genres: fantasy, mystery, sci-fi, and western. It is made for groups of 2-5 people, one of whom runs the game (the Guide).
How To Play
Players start by choosing an archetype for which genre they're playing in, then rolling a d6 to determine an aspect of their character. After that, they choose a name, roll another d6 or two to determine that genre's resource, and they're ready to play!
When a challenge occurs, and the Guide believes it to be possible to overcome, 1d6 is rolled. If the roll is a 4 or 5, the roller succeeds. If the roll is 6, the roller succeeds and adds 1 to their next roll.
If a challenge is OPPOSED by another, both roll 1d6 and the one who rolls higher succeeds. If the challenge is ASSISTED by another, all involved roll 1d6, and only the highest roll is used.
Each genre has additional rules included, but they all share the same resolution mechanics detailed above. Every genre fits on a single spread (set of two pages).
Free, Open Design
Go can be downloaded for free, and is registered CC-BY-4.0 to allow tabletop designers to use its text as they see fit by adding a couple sentences to their work. If you end up using it to make your own game, please tell us so we can check it out!
